Auction is for one Chinese type 56 SKS serial number puts this in April 1957 as one of the “Ghost Guns” (S/N~2000 to ~213,000). This one has all matching numbers. These carbines are almost identical to the Soviet-Sinos with some notable differences. These carbines do not have near as many Russian approval and process stamps on components indicating less hand holding by the Soviets. The stocks on these carbines appear to have a somewhat different wood type than was used in Russian SKS 45s. And finally, these carbines range from S/N ~2000 to ~213700 for a production run of approximately 212,000 carbines. Based on the Soviet-Sino production, it would appear that these truly domestically produced carbines were produced in the latter half of 1956 through at latest early 1957. The Chinese themselves often refer to their domestic built SKS carbine as the “Type 56 and a half” carbine.
This firearm is unfired and has original cosmoline on the metal portions, with the wood having been cleaned of cosmoline. The firearm is in fantastic shape, with some unusual pitting on the rear of the receiver. The pitting on the receiver is still blued, which tells me the metal was pitted before factory bluing was completed. The type 56 variant had numerous minor tweaks, including lack of milling on the bolt carrier, partially or fully stamped (as opposed to milled) receivers, and differing types of thumb rest on the take down lever. The Chinese continually revised the SKS manufacturing process, so variation can be seen even between two examples from the same factory. All of the Type 56 carbine rifles have been removed from military service, except a few being used for ceremonial purposes and by local Chinese Militias. Type 56 carbines with serial numbers below 9,000,000 have the Russian-style blade-type folding bayonet, while those 9,000,000 and higher have a “spike” type folding bayonet. Some early examples are known as “Sino-Soviet”, meaning they were produced by China, but with cooperation from Russian “advisers” who helped regulate the factories and provided the design specifications and perhaps even Soviet-manufactured parts. California Residents:
Our longstanding policy barring shipment to California has changed. We realize that CA gun owners are in a tough position — essentially behind enemy lines — and we are going to do our best to keep supplies shipping in. We realize that by our refusing to ship to CA, the gun-grabbers are getting exactly what they want. So, we are going to join with the CA gun owners in giving a big middle finger to the bad laws and to the politicians that make them by keeping the guns flowing as fast as we can. To properly process your transactions, we will need a valid FFL number as well as a 5-digit CFLC (California Firearms Licensee Check) number. You can call one of your local gun dealers if you have any questions about FFL or CFLC numbers. Please have this information available at the time of purchase to expedite the process. If you live in CA and you want to purchase an item, email us before you do so that we can best serve your needs!

For local pick-up, you will be responsible for all fees associated with the auction. This includes shipping, part of which, is used to defray the overhead cost of handling. There are no exceptions. If you are local and see something you are interested in, stop by the shop, and talk to us.
